Bishop Longin & Fr. Darko issue Lenten appeal

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Every Lenten Season we are reminded that doing good works and practicing charity are as important for our spiritual growth as fasting and prayer.  While fasting and prayer make us stronger in our relationship with God, by doing good works we share our blessings with those around us – indeed, we multiply them and allow them to grow.

As we navigate the Lenten journey this year in anticipation of our Lord’s triumphant Resurrection, a unique opportunity has arisen that allows us all to make a meaningful difference here and now.

Last summer, a Special Assembly of the Church-School Congregation of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral voted to authorize its parochial school – Saint Sava Academy – to purchase an 18,200 square foot building in Des Plaines that will meet the current and future needs of this important educational ministry.  Saint Sava Academy is the only dual-language Preschool-8th grade institution in Illinois with full-time Serbian and Russian language instruction and enrollment has been growing at the tremendous rate of nearly 20% each year.  As a result, the current classrooms and mobile units at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral are too small to accommodate their growth and expanded educational programs.  Following several months of negotiations, the purchase contract for the new site has been signed and inspections, planning and preparatory work are underway in the hope and expectation that classes can begin at the new facility this fall.

Your generous contribution today will assure that there is a dedicated home for Saint Sava Academy, with customized facilities built-out specifically to meet the educational needs of our children – including modern classrooms and technology, children-sized bathrooms, and a permanent student Chapel.

Please help us out by mailing back your check or credit card donation using the attached form: lenten-appeal-of-bishop-longin-and-father-darko, and become a part of this historic project!

Yours in the Lord,

Bishop Longin
